CFR 104.215 Vessel Security Officer

Vessel Security Officer” means the person on board the ship accountable to the master, designated by the Company as
responsible for the security of the ship, including implementation
and maintenance of the ship security plan and for the liaison with
the Company Security Officer (CSO) and the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO).

Vessel Security Officer

Young Memorial offers a 16 hour course designed to meet the IMO Model course for Ship Security Officer.

Topics covered include:

  • Vessel layout
    Crowd management and control techniques
    Operations of security equipment and systems
    Testing and calibration of security equipment and systems, and their
    maintenance while at sea.
    regularly inspect the vessel to ensure that security measures are maintained
    Ensure maintenance and supervision of the implementation of the Vessel
    Safety Plan

  • Knowledge of current security threats and patterns
    Recognition and detection of dangerous substances and devices
    Recognition of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are
    likely to threaten security
    Techniques used to circumvent security measures
    Security related communications
    Knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans

Security Awareness

Young Memorial's Security Awareness course is designed to meet the requirements of 33 C.F.R. 104.225. This one day course can be designed to
 meet a Company's Ship Security Plan for their employees.

 Security training for all other vessel personnel.

All other vessel personnel, including contractors, whether part-time,
full-time, temporary, or permanent, must have knowledge of,
through training or equivalent job experience in the following,
as appropriate:

(a) Relevant provisions of the Vessel Security Plan (VSP);

(b) The meaning and the consequential requirements of the different
Maritime Security (MARSEC) Levels, including emergency procedures
and contingency plans;

(c) Recognition and detection of dangerous substances and devices;

(d) Recognition of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who
are likely to threaten security; and

(e) Techniques used to circumvent security measures.
