officeoc.JPG (20009 bytes)Complying with the Louisiana Technical College's mission of workforce development, the Office Occupations Department provides relevant technical and academic education needed to assist individuals in making informed and meaningful occupational choices. The mission of this department is to develop in each student technical skills for use in Office Occupations careers, to develop in each student a comprehensive understanding of current office technology, to provide knowledge of how various job roles in an office relate to the various forms of office technology, and to encourage students to develop work and personal habits essential for success in business.

To promote this mission, the objectives of the department are as follows:

1. To provide Associate of Applied Technology Degree and diplomas
    in accounting Technology and Office Systems Technology at the

    Morgan City Campus.

2. To provide a diploma program in Office Systems Technology at the Franklin Campus.

3. To provide up-to-date instruction in the areas required by industry

4. To provide training equipment comparable to that used in business and industry

5. To motivate students to produce quality work

6. To encourage students to develop a sense of responsibility to employers

7. To encourage students to set personal future goals in terms of position desired and advancement on the job

8. To assist students with job placements

9. To provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed through extension classes as
    funds are appropriated

In keeping with these objectives, the courses are constructed in accordance with the general education as well as with clerical skills.

ACCOUNTING TECHNOLOGY
ASSOCIATE DEGREE OF APPLIED TECHNOLOGY

The purpose of the Accounting Technology Program is to provide specialized classroom instruction and practical experience to prepare students for employment as accounting technicians or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed as accounting technicians.

This program prepares individuals to provide technical support to professional accountants and other management personnel.  It includes instruction in general accounting principles and practices, posting transactions to accounts, record-keeping systems, and accounting software operation.

This program prepares individuals to perform the duties of special assistants for business executives and top management.  It includes instruction in business communications, public relations, scheduling and travel management, conference and meeting recording, report preparation, office equipment and procedures, office supervisory skills, professional standards, and legal requirements.
