The mission of the Electrician Program is to provide specialized classroom instruction and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in the electrical field or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in electrician occupations.

The purpose of this program is to provide a basic core of specialized instruction and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in electrical trades.

Students who complete the basic core may choose any of the specialty areas to complete the requirements to earn a diploma in that area.  Specialty areas prepare the graduate as an Industrial Electrician, Marine Electrician, or Commercial Electrician

The Industrial Electrician course will prepare individuals to install, troubleshoot, and repair wiring, electrical equipment, and other electrical devices used in the industrial environment, such as motors (AC and DC drivers), transformers, control systems, instruments, PLC's, and lighting systems.

The Marine Electricity program prepares individuals to install and repair wiring fixtures, and equipment for electrical services aboard ships and in shipyard facilities.  Wiring termination for power supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar, and other equipment will be covered.

The Commercial Electricity program generally prepares individuals to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical devices, components, and equipment that are utilized in residential and commercial electrical systems.  Students have two options to pursue this diploma, either by course work, or by serving an internship with a commercial contractor.

All program specialties emphasize safe and efficient work practices, basic occupational skills, and are organized into competency-based courses that specify occupational competencies, which the student must successfully complete.  Each area includes a study of all applicable codes and standards, blueprint reading, and wiring diagrams, which are appropriate to the area.  All work is performed with an emphasis on shop and work safety.
